A recent client who was thrilled with her self drive experience in Europe with Alamo!

Alamo Rent A Car Italy
Having recently traveled to Europe on our honeymoon and wanting to visit Switzerland, Italy and Croatia, we thought what better way to travel than in the luxury of our own hire car.

We had always traveled tediously on trains and taxi’s, but this time round we were so pleased to have our own car with the flexibility to be able to visit the little towns and villages along the way at our own speed. As our pictures show, we had an awesome brand new Alfa Romeo Giulietta which we booked through Alamo. This Alfa was a beauty driving through the newly built high ways of Croatia, the winding roads of the Italian coast, while soaking up the breathtaking views of the Swiss alps and summer Italian mountains.

A bonus was being able to pull over on sides of the roads while watching the last bit of snow melt away across the vast beauty of the mountains. An added bonus was getting use to the high road speeds and feeling like you were driving a hot red Ferrari as the over taking Italian’s showed how it was done!

Driving in Italy
If we were ever to visit Europe again, we would no doubt hire a car through Alamo, as it was easy, quick and efficient to hire and no doubt one of the best ways to travel across country.

Thanks Momento for your amazing service and recomendations.

Underwater World of Hawaii

Whether you’re a seasoned scuba diver or a beginning snorkeler, Hawaii offers a whole other world to explore under the sea. Hawaii has some of the best snorkelling and scuba diving spots in the world!

Kealakekua Bay, Hawaii’s Big Island
Is located 40 minutes south of Kailua-Kona in Kona, this historic bay is a remarkable place for snorkeling and scuba diving. Shielded by cliffs, the waters here are calm and rich with marine life. Within the bay you can also kayak or take a boat ride to the seaside memorial of Captain James Cook where you’ll find more snorkeling. Captain Cook was the British explorer who discovered the Hawaiian Islands in 1778.

Honaunau Bay (Two-steps), Hawaii’s Big Island
South Kona is shielded by the mountainous Maunaloa, making the waters on the southwest side of Hawaii’s Big Island calm and clear. A perfect example of this is at beautiful Honaunau Bay, also called Two-steps. “Two-steps” refers to a spot on the shoreline where the volcanic rock has been neatly worn away into a convenient “two-step” entry point for snorkelers and divers. Abundant fish and honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) can be seen in Honaunau’s warm waters.Honaunau Bay is also located nearby Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historic Park. Once a place of refuge for Hawaiian lawbreakers, this expansive historic park offers an intimate glimpse into Hawaiian culture. Hanauma Bay, Oahu. Hanauma Bay is located on Oahu’s southeastern tip and is the island’s most popular snorkeling destination. Accessible and family-friendly, the bay’s clear waters are rich with reefs and colorful fish. Hanauma Bay is Hawaii’s first Marine Life Conservation District, it is very important for visitors to help preserve the bay’s fragile ecosystem by reducing their impact on the environment. The park is closed Tuesdays.

Molokini, Maui
Molokini is a small, crescent shaped island off the South Maui coast. The waters here offer colorful reefs perfect for snorkeling and diving. In fact, the waters here are so rich with life, Molokini was named a State Marine Life and Bird Conservation District. Molokini is only accessible by boat tour. Tours are available from nearby Maalaea Harbor, Kihei, and Lahaina.

Hulopoe Bay, Lanai
Located on Lanai’s southern coast, Hulopoe Bay’s idyllic golden sands leave a lasting impression. Spend a day at this secluded beach and you’ll see why it was once named America’s best beach. Excellent snorkeling can be found near the bay’s beautiful tide pools. Hike just a bit further east and you’ll discover Lanai’s iconic Puu Pehe, or Sweetheart Rock.

Kee Beach, Kauai
Located at the end of the road on North Kauai, this popular and scenic beach features a protected lagoon ideal for snorkeling in the calmer summer months (winter brings rough and dangerous conditions). Offshore reefs also provide a great setting for advanced scuba divers.

The popular Kalalau hiking trail leading to the Napali Coast also begins at the western end of the beach. Nearby to the east, Makua beach, also known as Tunnels Beach, also provides exceptional snorkeling during the summer months and can be less crowded than Kee.

There are so many things to do and see in Hawaii. With the strength of the Aussie dollar, now is certainly a great time to travel to Hawaii!

Driving in an unfamiliar country can be challenging. Here are a few tips – courtesy of Alamo – to remember before you drive overseas. Got any other? Share your thoughts and experiences with us…

• Don’t forget your driving license.

• Familiarise yourself with the road signs and speed limits before you leave.

• Check speed limits. These vary depending on where you may be traveling. Some countries impose lower limits for inexperienced drivers or in bad weather.

• Don’t forget that the local expertise of Alamo’s location staff will be happy to help regarding the area and driving limits/signage.

• Don’t drink and drive. In some European countries it is an offence to drive with any alcohol in the blood.

• Many EC countries carry tolls on the motorways and some can impose on-the-spot fines for motoring offenses. Ensure you carry enough currency to cover such costs.

• When you arrive to collect the vehicle ask for specific directions to your destination, including applicable motorway entrances and exit numbers.

• Keep your car doors locked when driving or when parked. Always be cautious when windows are open and remember to close them and lock the doors once you have parked.

• No matter how innocent or needy they may appear, hitchhikers can mean bad news. Avoid them.

• Don’t be distracted if another motorist is yelling, honking, flashing headlights and pointing at the car as if there is something wrong. Drivers are advised to stop at the next public, well-lit area such as a service station.

• Know your car – familiarise yourself with your car’s safety equipment and ensure you know the number for road side assistance.

• Hide your valuables. Lock handbags, electrical items and luggage in the boot or glove box.

And of course, most of all, drive safely and enjoy the journey!
